My art portrays how people perceive each other and how people want to be seen. I want to emphasize the power of the human mind to apprehend by means of the senses. I'm going to focus on how people perceive themselves, how people perceive others, and how people want to be perceived by others.
First of all, I will be using people in most of my pictures because emotions are linked with perception. Some key things I'm going to use are facial expressions, clothes/appearance, personal flaws, and actions. I think that those things are the basis on which people perceive and judge each other. I have two pieces that go together. The first is a boy drowning, deciding between fighting to get to the surface and just sinking. I wanted this to parallel the feelings that we get when we become to overwhelmed with judgment. The second one is of the same boy at the surface with his head out of the water, just breathing. This is supposed to symbolize how no matter how bad it gets we always end up okay. I have a colored pencil drawing of a Taylor when she was sporting the “I’m a senior and I don’t care that I’m wearing sweats and a headband because I’m graduating soon” look. I did a painting of two guys, one is the black swan and the other is the white swan. I did a drawing of Tayl
The mediums I’ll be using are acrylic paints, colored pencils, and graphite. Acrylic because I’m able to get vibrant colors, and that is important since I’m going to be using emotions in my paintings, and people recognize certain colors with emotions. Colored pencils because I can make my marks look more prominent and when I blend colors together, I get an interesting result. Also, graphite because it’s easy to show value.
Through my art I have shown how people perceive each other, how people want to be perceived. I chose this theme because I think that the young adults really relate to this. They as well as I can relate to trying to portray themselves in a certain way in order to live up to people's expectations. I've tried to show this through my art and I want to continute with this thMy art portrays how people perceive each other and how people want to be seen.
